Drink du Jour – Cuban Cocktail No. 1

Ingredients:

  • Juice of 1/4  lemon
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • 2 oz Bacardi rum

Method:

Shake well with ice and strain into cocktail glass.

    Why powdered sugar. Does it dissolve? Does it froth? Why not granulated or simple? Nice looking.

      It’s a little of both, it dissolves better than granulated sugar and froths more than simple syrup. Also, if you add simple syrup to a drink, you are still adding liquid (even if it’s only a little bit) which alters the ratio of the ingredients and therefore will change the flavor of the drink. By using powdered sugar, you can dissolve it in the lemon juice and rum and not water down the drink.
