This is, of course a fundamental idea in Buddhism and it’s Eightfold Path: Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration. But you don’t have to be a Buddhist to see the benefit of this ideal.
There is an old term that is often used by computer programmers: GIGO or Garbge In, Garbage Out. In other words, if what you put into a system is garbage, then the resulting product is garbage as well. Well, the same is true in life. If you are thinking garbage thoughts, than you will very likely have garbage results in your life. So why not focus on the positive and get positive results instead? Seems like a no brainer to me.
